Good afternoon once again home lovers. Today’s post concerns a specific group of people that you may often forget about when reading blogs or using the internet as you perhaps usually don’t directly associate such things with this particular demographic. I’m talking specifically about older people today, and more specifically – the key issue of mobility around the home for the less able-bodied and infirm members of this age demographic. I’m sure many of my blog readers have relatives – for example parent and grandparents – who struggle to move around their home without constant assistance from a carer or family member. This is obviously a particularly difficult and critical issue if the elder person lives in a bungalow or single floor apartment and therefore naturally faces the daily key issue of moving from the lower ground floor living room or kitchen of their home to the upper floor bedrooms of the house on a day-to-day basis. Luckily, modern technology such as an electric stairlift can make the task of climbing stairs much easier for an elderly person and help maintain their Independence around their home for longer into their life. Modern stairlifts can also be fitted to homes that do not necessarily have a straight flight of stairs, as more recent technological advances in this field have allowed greater flexibility of the product.

Good evening to all you DIY nuts out there. You may have read in some of my previous blog posts here at UK Homes DIY blog that me and my housemates are already the proud owners of 3 lovely chickens which we keep in a home made chicken coup in the back garden. They are absolutely marvelous little things (I love watching them potter around the garden digging up worms and dandelions and the like), but more crucially they have been consistently producing an egg each a day throughout the summer months which proves very handy for breakfasts at weekends. I have got a few emails and people asking me about where I got my chicken coop plans. Well, as always I can recommend reading around the online blogs for key information on how to build a chicken coop yourself. Mine was constructed simply enough from some old pallets that my housemate salvaged from his site at work that we then stripped down into planks for the raw materials. With a few simple tools (saw, hammer, nails, chisel etc) you’ll be surprised how easy it is – just follow the plans in the link above. Good luck with your own DIY hen house and soon you too will be enjoying fresh eggs every day!

Hi everyone, here’s a bit of useful info that I’ve just found out online recently that may be relevant to anyone thinking of taking on any major structural or engineering works around their property. If you are indeed thinking of bringing in some specialist outside help to help you with a major home improvement task – perhaps such as a house extension or conservatory – then there are some important things to know and of course thoroughly check out before you take on anyone in the professional construction industry. It is always important to ensure that the company is fully certified, licensed and qualified to take on the task for which you have recruited them. For example, they may need to hold a contractors license for your given location or state (particularly if you are in the USA as there are many differing regional prerequisites). You may find that hiring unlicensed construction companies is not only potentially going to result in you paying over the odds for poor workmanship, but they also may not be properly insured and deliver you the legal cover you need if you need to chase up costs in the future. so please check carefully before you take on any outside construction contractors to help you with tasks in and around your home and garden.

Good afternoon home improvement lovers. Today’s blog post concerns a new discovery of mine which I would like to share with you. Indeed, you too may not be aware of this fact either, but while many of us are very much used to enjoying the warmth and style that a good quality rug can bring to the interior of your home or flat – there are in fact some very similar products that can be bought to be used to adorn the outside of your home. Such items can be a great addition to any outdoor communal area – such as a patio or outdoor dining area – and have been carefully built and woven in special ways so as to be resistant to the weather and elements that you would expect may potentially damage such products when used outside. The colour dyes that are used to make up the beautiful rug designs so unique are also specifically designed as to be resistant to the potential fading effects of the sun’s rays on the rug when left outside during the summer months or in hot climates. All these key features make for an extremely attractive and versatile product – and indeed there are indoor outdoor rugs available which as the name suggests are appropriate for either the interior or exterior of your home and garden areas.

Hello to all once again and welcome back to the UK Homes home improvement blog. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’ve been working far too hard of late – both in my “day job” and also in doing the frequent DIY projects that i seem to undertake in and around the home. If you feel anything like me, then sometimes you just want to put your feet up when you’ve finished with all the hard work and try to relax in the ultimate bliss and comfort that your living room can provide! It was at that point when I decided to spend some time browsing through furniture shops online and I saw the Lazyboy recliner chair. These babies seem to tick all the boxes and give you the ultimate combination of contemporary style and comfort for your home. As well as the full adjustability they offer, these chairs also can provide a heat massage – and some even have fridges built in so you will never have to get up onto your feet to fetch a nice cool drink again! Be warned however, if you want to get hold of one of these chairs always make sure you understand the importance of using only Lazyboy recliner authorized dealers to avoid any possible mishaps ruining your relaxation!
Hello again to all you DIY blog readers out there. You may recall my post a few weeks ago explaining how I had been in a bit of bother attempting some DIY plumbing in the bathroom of my home when fitting some new parts. Well, following on from this embarrassing disaster I feel it is essential to remind you all that as much as I love to do work on my home myself – I would say to you all please steer clear in the bathroom and leave it to the professionals! If you need great deals on bathroom suites this Autumn then before you rush off to the local bathrooms superstore why not save time, effort and money by shopping for the best deals on online. Also, while you are securing yourself a new bargain bathroom – I highly advise you to let the pros fit it as well – unless you want to end up in a rather wet mess!

Any regular readers of my blog will know that I have a great passion for DIY and making the most out of my home. But did you know, in my opinion the key for any successful do it yourself or home improvement project regardless of the size or nature of the task is making sure that you start out with high quality materials and ensuring you have the right tools for the job. If for example, you are looking forward to making your own high quality curtains ready for the coming Autumn season, please always ensure you have high quality curtain fabric – whether your personal tastes and choice of materials are cotton, cashmere or linen. Starting out by buying yourself a good quality curtain fabric naturally gives you the right raw materials to finish a quality curtain set for your home – regardless of the design or shape – so why skimp on poor products that can often result in a badly finished job – even with skilled workmanship? Get the best for your home by shopping online for only the best fabrics you can afford within your budget.

Here is some simple but essential home improvement information to help you out in your bathroom. Using the correct waste valves depending on the design of your bathroom is very key to ensure that water is held correctly in your bathroom shower, sink and toilet. In your shower basins, using the correct shower wastes is particularly important if you have a high powered shower unit in order to ensure that the high volumes of water are managed correctly. When concerned with your sink basin, basin wastes such as sprung or clicker wastes hold the key to success in holding the water in (if your sink has an overflow it is advisable to utilise a slotted waste design). When concerned with your bath, the days of the old fashioned plug and chain are numbered – the pop up waste or push button bath wastes are the designs for you! Always check to ensure you have the right design for your bathroom furniture to avoid any potential wet mishaps!

Hello again everyone. While I have recently been writing on my blog about how the weather in the UK is turning colder in the last week or so it seems that a number of my DIY blog readers in other more exotic parts of the world are still enjoying much hotter and sweatier temperatures in their local climates. Indeed, temperatures in some areas of the USA, the Middle East and many other parts of the world remain swelteringly hot at this time of the year. I personally wouldn’t fancy living in those conditions (in fact I’d probably find it difficult to leave the house in the hottest part of the day), but if you do you will know that the installation of air conditioning in your home is all but essential unless you fancy sweating it out in a boiling hot bedroom every evening. Luckily for you guys there are a number of great air conditioning units you can find online to suit the size of your home or workplace – so shop around to find a unit that suits your needs.
