Hello again to all you DIY blog readers out there. You may recall my post a few weeks ago explaining how I had been in a bit of bother attempting some DIY plumbing in the bathroom of my home when fitting some new parts. Well, following on from this embarrassing disaster I feel it is essential to remind you all that as much as I love to do work on my home myself – I would say to you all please steer clear in the bathroom and leave it to the professionals! If you need great deals on bathroom suites this Autumn then before you rush off to the local bathrooms superstore why not save time, effort and money by shopping for the best deals on online. Also, while you are securing yourself a new bargain bathroom – I highly advise you to let the pros fit it as well – unless you want to end up in a rather wet mess! ;-)

Correctly Regulate Water Flow Inyour Bathroom By Using The Right Waste Valves

Here is some simple but essential home improvement information to help you out in your bathroom. Using the correct waste valves depending on the design of your bathroom is very key to ensure that water is held correctly in your bathroom shower,  sink and toilet. In your shower basins, using the correct shower wastes is particularly important if you have a high powered shower unit in order to ensure that the high volumes of water are managed correctly. When concerned with your sink basin, basin wastes such as sprung or clicker wastes hold the key to success in holding the water in (if your sink has an overflow it is advisable to utilise a slotted waste design). When concerned with your bath, the days of the old fashioned plug and chain are numbered – the pop up waste or push button bath wastes are the designs for you! Always check to ensure you have the right design for your bathroom furniture to avoid any potential wet mishaps!

DIY Plumbing: Not Recommended!

Good morning once again to all readers of the UK Homes DIY blog. I write this morning feeling slightly less confident with my own DIY skills after making a horrible mess of one of those tricky little tasks in my bathroom. I think it’s fair to say that plumbing is clearly not my areas of expertise! Luckily, being such an internet boffin I have found out some good professional guys online who can come in and sort out all my (mostly self made) plumbing problems. The guys came out rapidly and stopped a near disaster of water getting everywhere in the bathroom and seeping through the ceiling into the house below! I can also happily say that they were very reasonable to not charge a call out fee either. I think it’s fair to say that as much as I like to try and do all the work around my house myself and keep up my thrifty DIY attitude as much as possible – but plumbing certainly isn’t my strong point! Guess I’ll be leaving it to the professionals in future!

Here is a handy hint for all of you wonderful DIY loving people out there who just like myself, suffer from the frustrating problem of having very small or limited amounts of space available in your bathroom or downstairs toilets. Well as always, never fear – as I have recently discovered that there are several items of bathroom upholstery and furnishings readily available on the market today to help counteract these annoying yet inevitable little problems. For example, installing corner basins can help you use the small amount of area you have available in the bathroom much more efficiently. Indeed, we have had one professionally fitted in our downstairs toilet earlier this year. Other simple ideas you could opt for are the installation of back-to-wall toilets – again a very simple sounding but effective method of addressing what can potentially prove to be a tricky home improvement problem. So there you have it! As is often the case with any small room in the house, the key to success is maximising the use of any space you have available.

Just a quick blog post to let you all know how i have now found a reason to get out of bed in the morning – electric power showers, man these bad boys are the future of personal hygiene! I have to be honest with you and say that I’ve never been a morning person at the best of times, and getting up at 6:30 to go to work has often proved a struggle for me since I took on this new job. However, since we have had our brand new bathroom fitted with a superb new electric showers I can’t wait for that alarm bell to ring in the morning! The problems me and my house mates had with old shower when we first moved into the house are well documented within my DIY blog – but we now have a totally new cleaning experience to enjoy every morning!

A Big Thumbs Up For UK Plumbers

Now that the ongoing bathroom fiasco at our house is finally behind us (having finally conceded to getting the professionals in to sort out all the problems with the bath, shower and everything else) I think I have to pay an honest tribute and hold my hands up in tribute to the quality of work and general skill of UK Plumbers. The guys came round when they promised and did a superb job of sorting everything out in the bathroom – if only I hadn’t been so stubborn and tried to do it all myself then things would probably have got sorted out much sooner. I guess its an important lesson for me too that their are limitations to what can be acheived through DIY, and there is a point when you need to call in qualified expertise to sort out the issues.

Bathroom Latest: Time To Get the Specialists In

Hello once again DIY blog readers young and old! Following my well documented bathroom related disasters over the last few months and the recent necessity to arrange a call out from one of Leeds’ quickest and cheapest emergency plumbers, I am starting to lose faith in my bathroom. The problems have been ongoing and wide ranging in their origin, ranging from the broken showers when I first moved in to the house, to the horrendous smelly green mold and damp on the walls and cracks in the tiles. With all this in mind, I’m finally coming round to the idea that my limited DIY skills are going to quite probably be insufficient to make a decent go of this bathroom. My housemates have perhaps wisely suggested that it may be time to leave my toolbox in the cupboard and call in a specialist bathrooms fitter. Now as you know, my wallet cannot stretch to much so were going to have to be on the lookout for special offers over the coming months if we are to find something within our budget. In the mean time it looks like me and my monkey wrench will have to continue our hard work!

Plumbing Emergency!

Wouldn’t you just know it. Just as I thought I had all my DIY tasks finally nicely organized and laid out for the coming weekend, a major bombshell has inevitably just put everything out of place. A major bathroom malfunction has once again occurred (see my blog post from a few weeks back), which is unfortunately beyond my own personal DIY skills to fix. Water is leaking out of my boiler all over the bathroom floor and looks set to leak through to the bottom floor of the house if it doesn’t get sorted out properly once and for all. It looks like I’m going to spend the next few days trying to look for a good quality domestic plumbing and heating company to sort all this nonsense out for me. Ah well, better safe than sorry I suppose, at least I get to vent all my frustrations out on my DIY blog! It seems as though this bathroom is proving to be a real thorn in my side…

Finally A Clean Bathroom!

Hello DIY blog fans! At last I have had to bite the proverbial bullet and clean my disgusting bathroom. The site of green mould growing on the window sills was probably the turning point – plus the fact my friends and family were beginning to refuse to come round to my house! A word of warning for anyone taking on such a task – buy some marigolds! These cleaning gloves are not too attractive but they are the only way of saving you from the filth and grime of bathroom germs. Also, get plenty of bleach for the toilet and a good spray cleaner and lots of cloths/rags for the bathroom surfaces and mirrors. I also invested in some new bacteria neutralising air fresheners to mask the unholy smells from within. Cleaning the bathroom took around an hour but now it’s like having a complete new unit put in – I have gone from disgusting mould and limescale to something that I would be proud to display to the whole neighbourhood!
