Hello once again DIY blog readers. I must first apologise for not updating my blog for a little while now. I have been helping my good friend move house and this has been taking up a lot of my time. I have been spending the last week or so shifting heavy boxes, packing white vans and being a general beast of burden – but at least I got some exercise I guess. I guess that my friend’s new house is nothing much by modern-day standards, but she is very happy to have a change of scenery all the same and get into some new dwellings. The way she has acquired her new home seems to be quite unusual actually – she has taken part in a council house exchange scheme which has allowed her to swap her old humble abode with another like-minded person in her local area who was also looking for a change. She got chatting on a website forum about the idea and then ended up swapping her old house! Quite a unique and interesting concept that I had never considered before – but well worth checking out if you are in a similar situation. Before you make the decision though its probably worth asking your council, landlord or estate agent questions about the implications of this move. I’m probably going to help her out with the decorating this week so watch this space for all my latest DIY news.

Hey guys, I’ve spent most of Friday night and Saturday afternoon helping a very good friend who has recently moved into my area settle into his new apartment. Naturally, he was keen to start to make the place his own, so we have spent some time decorating the less desirable areas of the apartment, covering up any traces of the dreaded damp – particularly in the bathroom. Luckily however, it seems he is not going to have all the same problems I had in the bathroom which extended way beyond my current DIY knowledge. He was also keen to secure his possessions following the recent burglaries in our area, so I helped him shop online and check out a apartment building insurance quote to help him getter peace of mind. I also suggested a number of the DIY home security tips I have covered in this blog such as anti climb paint and home security systems. I’m sure he will soon be very happy in his new apartment – maybe I can offer him some good home improvement ideas too!

In my last DIY blog post I talked about our recent improvements to the living room of the house, and now that all the painting and decorating is done and dusted I have decided to make some improvements to the old fireplace we have in there. At the moment it looks rather old, dull and grey and I think it could do with a bit of the old DIY magic touch! I’ve spent a good bit of time online looking at home improvement websites and have studied a massive range of different options, but I’ve finally decided on a fireplace design that I think will suit the overall theme, feel and decor of the living room as a whole. I’ve decided to go for something fairly contemporary and modern looking and I’m currently getting all the things I need together to complete the project. Hopefully I will be all set to go by the weekend.

Hi everybody! My latest contribution to my DIY blog concerns a quick report on some of the recent improvements me and my housemates have been making to the living room of the house. With all the drama going off in the bathroom recently and because of all the hard work we have carried out in building the DIY gym in the garage, it seems as though the living room may have become somewhat neglected. You may think this is a little strange, as most people seem to treat the front room of their home as the key focal point for any home improvement work they undertake, but in our case it has been largely overlooked until now. For the last couple of days me and my friends have taken on a role of painter & decorators and have given the living room a good once over in preparation for the festive season when no doubt we will have a lot of guests around for Christmas meals and parties, as well as the obligatory visits from the parents! Wev’e spent a long time painting the walls, dusting the units and hoovering the carpets and I have to say it looks like a completely new room. I’m glad all our hard work has paid off.
Next thing on the list is decorating my house walls. The previous tennants must have been some kind of nutcases for leaving the walls in the state they are in at the moment. I’d recommend a bit of home decorating to anyone – its surprising how much different a lick of white paint can make to a place, and of course, how easy it is to do. Make sure you put some old newspapers on the floor first though, or your carpet is going to end up looking like a lost work of Jackson Pollock.
There is no doubt something strangely relaxing about painting and decorating walls, maybe it takes my mind off the stresses of work or the perpetuating rain hammering down outside the house. In any case, pick up your brushes and get yourself down to the DIY shop for a tin of magnolia today!
