Learning How To Build A DIY Chicken Coup

Good evening to all you DIY nuts out there. You may have read in some of my previous blog posts here at UK Homes DIY blog that me and my housemates are already the proud owners of 3 lovely chickens which we keep in a home made chicken coup in the back garden. They are absolutely marvelous little things (I love watching them potter around the garden digging up worms and dandelions and the like), but more crucially they have been consistently producing an egg each a day throughout the summer months which proves very handy for breakfasts at weekends. I have got a few emails and people asking me about where I got my chicken coop plans. Well, as always I can recommend reading around the online blogs for key information on how to build a chicken coop yourself. Mine was constructed simply enough from some old pallets that my housemate salvaged from his site at work that we then stripped down into planks for the raw materials. With a few simple tools (saw, hammer, nails, chisel etc) you’ll be surprised how easy it is – just follow the plans in the link above. Good luck with your own DIY hen house and soon you too will be enjoying fresh eggs every day!

Looking To Make Your Own Curtains? Make Sure You Have Quality Fabric

Any regular readers of my blog will know that I have a great passion for DIY and making the most out of my home. But did you know, in my opinion the key for any successful do it yourself or home improvement project regardless of the size or nature of the task is making sure that you start out with high quality materials and ensuring you have the right tools for the job. If for example, you are looking forward to making your own high quality curtains ready for the coming Autumn season, please always ensure you have high quality curtain fabric – whether your personal tastes and choice of materials are cotton, cashmere or linen. Starting out by buying yourself a good quality curtain fabric naturally gives you the right raw materials to finish a quality curtain set for your home – regardless of the design or shape – so why skimp on poor products that can often result in a badly finished job – even with skilled workmanship? Get the best for your home by shopping online for only the best fabrics you can afford within your budget.

Save Money With Home Improvement Coupons

This is just a really quick post to let you all know a good tip I’ve recently picked up with regard to how you can save some money on home improvement and gardening products online. Why not have a look for some home improvement discount coupons and save yourself a few quid while doing up your home in the process! There are a large number of discount coupons available on the internet which cover all areas of home improvement and DIY so you are almost certain to find a relevant offer for your personal needs. These vouchers range from furniture discount coupons to a broad variety of other discount vouchers for your garden and other areas around the home. I have found that by just taking a few moments to browse through these offers I managed to save a packet, so if you are making plans for a DIY project or are laying out ideas  for the improvement of your home, you should try to make the most of them before they expire.

Latest News from the DIY Gym

The DIY gym that I had set up in my garage finally has a new addition! Determined to become the next Lance Armstong, I have bought an upright exercise bike to compliment the home made gym equipment that I already have in place (please feel free to read my previous blog posts to see the details of these home projects). I’ll soon be pedaling away to my hearts content, trying to work off all those calories I seem to have consumed during this cold UK winter.  As  you know, I am keen to try and build all the equipment in my gym myself if possible, but unfortunately it seems as though constructing an exercise bike from scratch was somewhat beyond my limited DIY skills. So I guess if you are interested in buying an exercise bike for your home you can always read a few exercise bike reviews to get a flavour of what is on offer. However, for things like dips bars etc you’ll be surprised how easy it is to construct one yourself!

Choosing a compressor For Your DIY Tasks

One thing that continues to astound me is the number of people who take on DIY jobs around their home and are either ill prepared in terms of planning or simply do not have the right tools for the job. There is little doubt in my mind that (if you can afford it at least), the use of modern tools and technology can certainly make any DIY tasks significantly easier to accomplish. I’ve recently been checking out some information on some various pneumatic fastening tools which I’m thinking of acquiring at air compressors UK. I’m particular impressed by their range of oil free compressors UK which seem to offer some great diverse products with a wide range of maximum working pressure limits, and designed to fulfill a broad range of functions. I personally find that the oil free units are advantageous in that they tend to require much less ongoing maintenance, have greater versatility and are generally a little easier to operate as they can be used at steeper angles than lubricated compressors when required.

Loft Conversions Offer Stylish Alternative

A good old mate of mine “Darn Sarf” in Essex has just moved into a room in a fantastic looking and well located property and rather than spending all his time and effort slaving away doing it up from scratch like myself, he has opted to splash out on moving into a fully completed professional Essex loft conversion. I must say that the landlord has done a very good job, and that there are seemingly a number of definite advantages to living in the upper echelons of the property – lots of light from the large window in the roof and easy access to the bathroom for showers etc.  It is also advantageous for the landlord I guess as he now has an extra room to rent out, but at least he has done a very good, clean job of it – certainly better than I could do lol!

A Sucker For A Sauna

Inspired by my recent trip to the Turkish baths on my trip to Budapest, I’m desperately seeking a way to make a good quality DIY sauna in the luxury of my very own home. Now I know what you’re thinking, that this is an extremely ambitious DIY project to say the least, but just think of the benefits! I could soon be inviting all the local ladies down to my crib to relax and chill out – or maybe not :-) .  Back to reality for a second, on a realistic front I’m not talking about  making a highly complex infrared sauna which you may have fitted professionally, but I think it would be awesome to try and build something even half as good myself in the bathroom – which lets face it, going on its current state cant get much worse! Of course, this vision is a long way off, but I fully intend to do some research into the best way of approaching this mammoth task!

Simple Home Security with Anti-Climb Paint

I’m sad to report this week that 2 of my very nice neighbours have had their houses broken into over the last couple of days. This has not surprisingly got me thinking about how I can implement a bit of simple and cheap DIY home security measures. One of the burglars entered my neighbours house by climbing their drain pipe into an open 1st floor window. I have now discovered however, a simple and effective way of tackling this problem that you can implement yourself. Simply go down to your local DIY shop and get a can of antic-climb paint. When applied liberally to drain pipes etc this paint can act as an effective deterrent against possible intruders to your property. This is because the anti-climb paint never becomes fully dry, and therefore stops the burglar from being able to climb the slippery surface. Be warned however, I would advise only applying this paint to areas that are out of your reach on a day-to-day basis so as to avoid getting any on your own clothing by accident!

Hello everybody. I have woken up this morning with a sense that in spite of my best efforts to go it alone in the crazy world of DIY (letting only my personal inspiration be my guide) I am fast coming to the conclusion that I need a more experienced source of inspiration and assistance from other more informed people. For these reasons I’ve speant a bit of time this week digging through the pages of Better Homes Magazine in the hopes that somehow their expertise may provide me with some sort of logical target with which to work with over my infamous DIY weekenders. With a bit of luck this will kick my creativity into action and I can be back to my crazy best around the house. Fingers Crossed!
