A very good friend of mine has been lucky enough to land themselves a rather well paid job teaching school kids English in central Europe and she has naturally therefore had to pack up all her homely possessions and go through the massive task of relocating them in to her new residence. Knowing that I’m quite handy with these sorts of things and spend a lot of time researching new home based products and services online for my home improvement blog, she has asked me for some help and useful tips in finding a suitable company to deal with her overseas removals. I hope to be able to help her in any way I can of course by lending a hand in person and packing up all the mass of items she has acquired over the last few years living in the UK. However, to actually ship the items across she is clearly going to have to call in the big guns! For the mean time however, I’ve got a feeling a load of her stuff will be hanging around in my garage in big boxes ready for transit!

If you live here in the UK, you will no doubt have noticed the nights getting longer, temperatures dropping and leaves falling from the trees meaning we are well into the autumn season. My thoughts have therefore switched to finding places to store my garden furniture and other outdoor items before the frosts get too heavy. A decent sized storage shed would seem to be a good option, and I can also whack in all my DIY tools and the like which have built up over the last few months. If you need somewhere to stash your car away from the falling leaves and don’t have a garage (or like me have turned your garage into a gym!), you can try sturdy structures such as metal carports. This also gives you a little more peace of mind and security for your vehicle.
Just a quick update to let you know I managed to salvage some carpet for free for my garage gym from one of the neighbours. Its going to be pretty cold in the coming months so hopefully this will provide a bit of insulation and help keep the place clean. I’m going to cut it into shape using a stanley knife later this afternoon.

Good afternoon one and all, it has been a while since my last post of my DIY pearls of wisdom as I have been away for 2 weeks travelling around Europe in the sunshine! I am now however suitably rested and refreshed and have spent the weekend getting back on those little DIY jobs around the house that I should have completed before I went away!
First on the hit list was the back garden. Me and my house mates spent our Saturday afternoon cutting the grass with our new lawnmower, trimming the bushes, cleaning, sweeping, tidying, weeding the flower beds and generally pottering around the garden to restore some sort of parity. Remember to put all your green waste on the compost heap!
We then set about some DIY tasks in the garage. We have decided to turn it into a gym, so before we move in our weights bench, punch bag and start hopping around like Rocky Balboa, we need to set a few things up. I got in a mate of mine who is an electrician to do the electrical wiring from our electric box in the kitchen. I then carefully pinned the wire along the house wall above head height so we don’t trip over it! We now have lighting in the garage to work with. As the roof of the garage is asbestos, we also took the time to put up a dust sheet as it is not advisable to be breathing in any asbestos dust while working out and breathing heavily! Our final touch to our DIY gym was the addition of a huge poster of the great Ali himself, hanging proudly from the garage wall. Maybe with all this DIY work I won’t even need a gym – I’m tired enough from doing the work as it is!
