Contemporary Area Rugs

With the UK firmly gripped in the chill of the bleak midwinter and with the clocks going back casting our evening (and late afternoon) into perpetual darkness, I have been seeking a few home improvement ideas on how to make my house feel a bit more “homely” and warm. I have been checking out a number of rather nice contemporary area rugs to give my living room a sense of warmth and cosyness and also tie the room together nicely with a bit of modern looking style. After a bit of careful investigation I’ve managed to narrow down my choice of area rugs to a small selection which I feel will potentially tie in nicely with the general colour, style, size and decor of my living room. Now all i have to do is convince my house mates that this should be our next great venture in the world of home improvement!

Decorating Time!

Next thing on the list is decorating my house walls. The previous tennants must have been some kind of nutcases for leaving the walls in the state they are in at the moment. I’d recommend a bit of home decorating to anyone – its surprising how much different a lick of white paint can make to a place, and of course, how easy it is to do. Make sure you put some old newspapers on the floor first though, or your carpet is going to end up looking like a lost work of Jackson Pollock.

There is no doubt something strangely relaxing about painting and decorating walls, maybe it takes my mind off the stresses of work or the perpetuating rain hammering down outside the house. In any case, pick up your brushes and get yourself down to the DIY shop for a tin of magnolia today!

Home Improvement in the Bahamas?

With the ever worsening weather, I find myself back working on the old home improvement jobs around the inside of my house. During my trip to that certain Swedish DIY store (no prizes for guessing what that is ;-) ) I manged to pick up some cool new photos on canvas to hang on my bedroom wall. I opted for a nice picture of a desert island in the vague hope that this would create a “warm feeling inside”, and that this venture may somehow detract from the ongoing (and progressively worsening torrential rain that now constitutes the British summer) – which continues to fall down outside. A carefuly carried out bit of hammering, and spirit level usage and hey presto! Within a few minutes it’s up on the wall and i feel like I’m in the bahamas (well almost). Now all we need is the sun to shine so I can lie in the garden again!
