Well readers, as the recent cold snap has proven winter is now well and truly upon us. Last year on the UK Homes DIY blog I wrote several posts about good ways of helping keep the heat in your house and generally making your home and its fittings more energy efficient. With the recession still biting us all pretty much worldwide, increasing the energy efficiency of our homes remains an excellent way of making long term savings through short terms investments. One key area to consider when looking at ensuring the heat remains in your home is the house windows. If your home has old drafty fittings, then you may consider getting replacement windows fitted to your home that stop the heat seeping out through these key areas. As well as this obvious money saving advantage by reducing your energy bills, fitting new windows to your home also can enhance the aesthetic beauty of your building and give it greater value on the housing market in the long term. Another excellent method of addressing your tired old window frames and enhancing the beauty of the house windows can be applying texture coating to the frames. Following the simple 8 stage process in the link above can deliver you a fantastic new finish to the house and you will be delighted with the results.

Hello to all once again and welcome back to the UK Homes home improvement blog. I don’t know about you, but I feel like I’ve been working far too hard of late – both in my “day job” and also in doing the frequent DIY projects that i seem to undertake in and around the home. If you feel anything like me, then sometimes you just want to put your feet up when you’ve finished with all the hard work and try to relax in the ultimate bliss and comfort that your living room can provide! It was at that point when I decided to spend some time browsing through furniture shops online and I saw the Lazyboy recliner chair. These babies seem to tick all the boxes and give you the ultimate combination of contemporary style and comfort for your home. As well as the full adjustability they offer, these chairs also can provide a heat massage – and some even have fridges built in so you will never have to get up onto your feet to fetch a nice cool drink again! Be warned however, if you want to get hold of one of these chairs always make sure you understand the importance of using only Lazyboy recliner authorized dealers to avoid any possible mishaps ruining your relaxation!

Any regular readers of my blog will know that I have a great passion for DIY and making the most out of my home. But did you know, in my opinion the key for any successful do it yourself or home improvement project regardless of the size or nature of the task is making sure that you start out with high quality materials and ensuring you have the right tools for the job. If for example, you are looking forward to making your own high quality curtains ready for the coming Autumn season, please always ensure you have high quality curtain fabric – whether your personal tastes and choice of materials are cotton, cashmere or linen. Starting out by buying yourself a good quality curtain fabric naturally gives you the right raw materials to finish a quality curtain set for your home – regardless of the design or shape – so why skimp on poor products that can often result in a badly finished job – even with skilled workmanship? Get the best for your home by shopping online for only the best fabrics you can afford within your budget.

Hola DIY blog readers! I have not updated this site for a while because I have taken a weeks holiday in sunny Barcelona, but now I am back with some more tips to help you out with your home improvement plans. My little cousin is coming over to the house soon, and since he is still a toddler I’ve taken some basic but necessary measures to help to make my home a little more “childproof” and safer for a young child. I have started by removing all unstable /sharp edged objects and locked them in the spare room so nothing can topple over when the little man is crawling around. I have also fitted a lockable safety gate (baby gate) at the top of the stairs so he cant wander off or go exploring where he shouldn’t be going! I have read that it can also be a very good idea to lower your water temperature on the house boiler so young children cannot scold themselves with a hot water if they gain access to your faucet or taps. Simple ideas such as this are great ways of making your home safer for children.

As you may have noticed from my most recent posts on this weblog, I have been concentrating my home improvment plans and ideas on the kitchen over the past week or so. Indeed, I am now thinking of expanding my horizons once again on the kitchen appliance front. I have always personally loved eating fresh bread every day and while this is something that households in Europe seem to be able to take for granted, its a lesser found practise in UK breakfast tables and food cupboards. My personal DIY ethos, allied with this desire for fresh bread has brought me to the conclusion that I may like to get my hand on a a home bread making appliance – and as such I have immediately sought some bread maker reviews to find a product that is reliable and effective but that will fit in with our small kitchen that we have in our home. A number of leading home electronics / home appliance manufacturers seem to have some decent bread makers to suit my needs – for example Panasonic bread makers seem to have some respectable reviews. I will continue my search, and hopefully soon be waking up to fresh toast made from fresh bread every morning of the week!

I lay in bed last night dreaming about my ideal house and all the wonderful things it would contain: long spiralling staircases with polished brass handrails, beautiful interior decor, perhaps some rather grandeur antler chandeliers hanging from the high ceilings and of course, one of the finest quality above ground swimming pools money can buy in my back garden. It would be a spotless white house adorned with mounted wall fountains with water flowing seemlessly and gracefully out of their spouts. What a relaxing scenario that would be to dwell in! The Unfortunate reality is however that my home at the moment is a lot closer to the realms of cheap DIY flat pack furniture and rising damp than wall fountains
Everyone must have a dream house to work towards though I suppose – personally speaking it gives me the drive and ambition I need to carry out those little DIY tasks and home improvements that take me one step closer to that dream. I remind myslef that a little hard work can go a long way in the world of DIY, and no doubt I’ll be up to my usual tricks this weekend.
