Home security and the protection of my hard earned worldly possessions is something that is constantly in the back of my mind, so I have been considering upgrading our current home burglar alarm. There are so many simple security products out there on the market (some of which I have already used to protect my home – such as anti climb paint) but I think the time has come to give some serious consideration to upgrading our current intruder alarm system for greater peace of mind. There are now some fantastic deals available online that offer home monitoring security services as well as the more regular alarm systems. Browse online now for the best deals.

A new year is now upon us which means it is inevitably the time for sorting out all those little “administrative” things around the home which always seem to take up all my valuable DIY blogging and get in the way of all my grand home improvement project plans. For example, my current contract of home cover has now expired so I’ve had to spend all my time looking around the web for a reasonably priced apartment building insurance quote to insure my personal possessions. Indeed, with the current economic climate undoubtedly affecting us all (me included), I’ve perhaps unsurprisingly found that now more than ever is a key time for finding some affordable homeowners insurance that can offer me the peace of mind I need – without breaking the bank. I know I’m not alone in this predicament because I’ve been contacted recently by several readers of this DIY blog living throughout the world, asking me for advice on addressing similar issues and one identical theme seems to spring up whether you are looking for a home insurance quote in California or in Croydon – the price and quality of cover. My advice would simply be to shop around and find the best deal for you in your region.

After a series of break ins on our street, me and my house mates have decided that we should try to take some steps to try to improve our home security a little more. We have now fitted a motion sensitive security light at both the front and side doors of our house which will light up at night if any potential burglars try to enter the house under a cloak of darkness. I have also started looking into having a proper burglar alarm system fitted to the house. Although this is unfortunately a bit of an unwanted expense, I think it is now more important than ever because – as my last few blog entries have highlighted – I have recently spent a large amount of money on home appliances that I fear may be targeted by local criminals. Installing a proper home security system will therefore give me a bit greater peace of mind.

I’m sad to report this week that 2 of my very nice neighbours have had their houses broken into over the last couple of days. This has not surprisingly got me thinking about how I can implement a bit of simple and cheap DIY home security measures. One of the burglars entered my neighbours house by climbing their drain pipe into an open 1st floor window. I have now discovered however, a simple and effective way of tackling this problem that you can implement yourself. Simply go down to your local DIY shop and get a can of antic-climb paint. When applied liberally to drain pipes etc this paint can act as an effective deterrent against possible intruders to your property. This is because the anti-climb paint never becomes fully dry, and therefore stops the burglar from being able to climb the slippery surface. Be warned however, I would advise only applying this paint to areas that are out of your reach on a day-to-day basis so as to avoid getting any on your own clothing by accident!
