Simple Home Security with Anti-Climb Paint

I’m sad to report this week that 2 of my very nice neighbours have had their houses broken into over the last couple of days. This has not surprisingly got me thinking about how I can implement a bit of simple and cheap DIY home security measures. One of the burglars entered my neighbours house by climbing their drain pipe into an open 1st floor window. I have now discovered however, a simple and effective way of tackling this problem that you can implement yourself. Simply go down to your local DIY shop and get a can of antic-climb paint. When applied liberally to drain pipes etc this paint can act as an effective deterrent against possible intruders to your property. This is because the anti-climb paint never becomes fully dry, and therefore stops the burglar from being able to climb the slippery surface. Be warned however, I would advise only applying this paint to areas that are out of your reach on a day-to-day basis so as to avoid getting any on your own clothing by accident!

Heres a simple and quick DIY tip – and most importantly for all you guys feeling the pinch of the credit crunch – a very cheap solution for anyone suffering from the dreaded damp on the roof of their bathroom – simply add a couple of coats of damp proof paint. I picked up a tin of the paint down at the local home improvement super store for next to nothing. A couple of coats with the paint roller and this simple decorating job can improve the look and smell of your bathroom no end in just a couple of hours. Please don’t forget to put newspaper down before you start decorating though or you’ll end up with a damp proof floor as well! :-)

Decorating Time!

Next thing on the list is decorating my house walls. The previous tennants must have been some kind of nutcases for leaving the walls in the state they are in at the moment. I’d recommend a bit of home decorating to anyone – its surprising how much different a lick of white paint can make to a place, and of course, how easy it is to do. Make sure you put some old newspapers on the floor first though, or your carpet is going to end up looking like a lost work of Jackson Pollock.

There is no doubt something strangely relaxing about painting and decorating walls, maybe it takes my mind off the stresses of work or the perpetuating rain hammering down outside the house. In any case, pick up your brushes and get yourself down to the DIY shop for a tin of magnolia today!
